Independent Waterproofing Advice. From Design Through to Resolution.

Four services. One relationship. Zero conflicts of interest.

NATA Accredited ORGANISATION | Member of AIW | THOUSANDS OF Defects Identified & Prevented

Most consultancies cover one stage. We cover all four, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Design

Indicatively, 35% of waterproofing defects originate at the design stage, before anyone looks to apply waterproofing membrane. Our design team of architects, engineers, and construction professionals review your waterproofing design to ensure compliance with the National Construction Code, Australian Standards (AS3740, AS4654.2), and material supplier specifications before works begin.

We work with the likes of architects, Tier 1, 2 and 3 builders, developers, and project managers to provide:

  • Design compliance reviews — Drawings, sections, details, and specifications reviewed against NCC and relevant Australian Standards
  • Performance solutions — Where deemed-to-satisfy provisions don’t clearly address the design, we develop performance-based solutions
  • Inground and Basement waterproofing design — Bespoke approach based on site conditions, intended use, Council requirements, and Water Authority prescriptions
  • Waterproofing Section Details — Inform your project with compliant details prepared by our team appropriate for your project needs
  • Remedial design — For existing buildings with defects, we design the rectification scope, specify materials, and manage the remedial process
  • Workshops and mark-ups — Collaborative sessions with design teams to resolve waterproofing details before they become site problems
  • Declared designs (NSW) — Supporting regulatory compliance with documented waterproofing design declarations

Inspect

Waterproofing is not as simple as applying a coating. Australian Standards, the NCC, and Housing Provisions outline minimum requirements for membrane installations, but compliance depends on correct falls, terminations, substrate preparation, layout design, detailing, and compliance. Our inspectors are educated in what is required and assess compliance at each critical stage – whether that be substrate, membrane application or post-completion.

We provide independent on-site inspections during construction to verify:

  • Application continuity — Ensuring the membrane is applied without gaps, voids, or discontinuities
  • Thickness compliance — Verifying dry film thickness meets manufacturer specifications and Australian Standards
  • Falls and terminations — Checking that the membrane sheds water correctly and terminates at the right height and detail
  • Substrate preparation — Confirming the surface is clean, primed, and suitable before membrane application
  • Compliance with NCC and AS3740 / AS4654.2 — Independent verification that the installation meets regulatory requirements
  • Material and product compliance — Ensuring the installed system matches the specified and approved products

Our inspections are independent of all installers and manufacturers. We have no commercial relationship with any waterproofing contractor or product supplier.

Test

Waterproofing Integrity is a NATA Accredited Organisation (Accreditation No. 21463) for waterproofing testing services, meaning that you get lab quality testing onsite. Our technicians use state-of-the-art equipment to provide quantitative, evidence-based reports on the integrity of waterproofing systems in new construction, maintenance programs, and diagnostic investigations.

We don’t guess. We measure.

Testing Methodologies

Electronic Leak Detection and Continuity

We possess multiple methodologies in testing for the continuity of a waterproofing membrane. Technology has usurped the flood test to offer more precise and quicker identification of leak locations through electronic leak detection methods that work where flood testing is not practical. We otherwise have alternate methods that incorporate water, pressure or gas and we use each as appropriate to each situation.

Ultrasonic Thickness Testing

Non-destructive measurement of dry film thickness to verify membrane application meets standards.

Adhesion Testing

We offer several adhesion testing methodologies to measure considerations such as bond strength between membrane and substrate, tile adhesion or to verify proper adhesion and long-term performance.

Moisture Reading

Measures substrate moisture content at the slab surface or within the concrete slab to determine suitability for membrane or flooring application.

Substrate Testing

By testing the concrete prior to membrane application, we can determine suitability for membrane to be applied.

Facade and Drone Testing

From water testing vertical elements to replicate rain to deploying drones with AI technology to identify thermal properties and defects, our testing extends beyond waterproofing to look at the wider building envelope.

The right test can depend on the membrane type, location, and application. Electronic leak detection alone has different approaches depending on the situation and build up. Our team recommends the most appropriate method for each project and we can work through that with you. If you have a specification for any of the above or otherwise, we can assist navigate what is best for your project.

Defects identified and prevented

We work with commercial, strata, and residential properties Nationally to assist in identifying and determining appropriate actions to remediate waterproofing failures. Our remedial team includes specialists in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Newcastle, also servicing Canberra, Wollongong, and surrounding areas.

Remediate

42% of Australian buildings have waterproofing defects. The average repair cost is $283,000. When things go wrong, WI provides the independent expertise to diagnose the root cause, design the fix, and oversee the remediation, without any conflict of interest.

We work with engineers, remedial builders, waterproofing contractors, strata managers, developers correcting defects, and asset owners to provide:

  • Diagnostic investigations — Combining applied water testing, thermal photography, moisture readings, and construction knowledge to identify or eliminate water ingress points. We work systematically to pinpoint the source, not just the symptom.
  • Remedial design — Once the cause is identified, we design the rectification scope: specifying materials, detailing the approach, and defining the contractor scope of works.
  • Contractor scope and management — We prepare clear scopes for contractors to quote against, and can manage the remediation process to ensure the fix is done right.
  • Compliance testing of remedial works — After remediation, we test the new installation to verify effectiveness.
  • Declared Designs (NSW) — For regulatory compliance, we provide documented waterproofing design declarations to support certification.
  • Expert reporting — For strata disputes, builder defect claims, or insurance matters, our independent reports carry weight because we have no commercial interest in the outcome.

Why Independence Is Everything

No product affiliations

We don’t sell membranes, coatings, or systems. Our advice is based on what’s right for your project, not what earns us a commission.

No contractor relationships

We don’t install and we don’t subcontract to installers. When we inspect or test, there is no commercial pressure to approve.

No conflicts of interest

When our report says a membrane has failed, it’s because the data says so. Our NATA accreditation means our testing has legal standing.
